Returning to Community College is a Great Choice for Continuing Education

Submitted by admin on Wed, 12/08/2010 - 14:59

Going back to school at 50 or older can be done for a variety of reasons. Some people decide that they need to make a late-life career change because they aren’t satisfied with their current career path. Other people come to understand that they might need to learn additional skills to continue to be competitive in their current roles. And for other people, returning to school is simply a way to learn new things in their retirement.

No matter what situation you are in, going back to school at an older age can be difficult. The strain of making it to campus for classes plus the high cost of college tuition can be prohibitive to men and older women going back to school. Many people give up on attending classes or don’t sign up at all because of the hardships that going back to college brings.

This is why so many adults are returning to community college as their first step in their continuing education. Community colleges throughout the country are showing double-digit enrollment growth as students are seeing the value of attending classes at these institutions. Community colleges are local, offer convenient schedules for working adults and are much more affordable than four-year institutions.

You can complete your general education requirements at a community college and save thousands of dollars before transferring to a four-year school to complete your bachelor’s degree. Community colleges also offer great opportunities to take courses to enrich your level of knowledge on a wide range of subjects. When you are researching options for going back to school, make sure you keep community colleges in mind!
